24 hours in NYC

Highlights:
- Breakfast at Ovenly (Brooklyn)
- A crack shake from Momofuku Milk Bar (plus cookies for our new West Jet Flight Attendant pals)
- Staying with friends in their quintessential Brooklyn apartment
- Lazy evening drinking wine and sharing tales of NZ  with fellos Kiwis at Troost (Brooklyn)
- The Staten Island ferry (free!) which passed the Statue of Liberty
- Finding a few of Smitten Kitchen’s local favs (and creepily looking out for Deb)
- The hype of a big city from the night life at Times Square to taking taxis with complete (but oh-so-friendly) strangers
- The ease of the transit system and HUGE subway network
- Traditional old buildings, like brick apartments with external fire escape ladders (just like on Friends)

Lowlights
No lowlights! But there was a bit of culture shock including:
- The dirtiness: garbage bags littering the streets, a tonne of graffiti, some horrid smells – all of which added to the crazy-beauty of the boroughs
- The humidity of the underground subway stations, compensated by the fantastic air-conditioned carriages
- Only having 24 hours. We definitely mastered our short stint in NYC, and now know where to return to next time
